Total Knee Replacement Surgery, also known as knee arthroplasty, is the gold-standard treatment for advanced knee osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or post-traumatic joint damage. When cartilage wears down completely, bones rub directly against each other, causing debilitating pain, stiffness, and structural deformities. This surgery removes the damaged joint surfaces and resurfaces them with biocompatible metal components and a high-density polyethylene plastic spacer. Modern offerings include high-flexion implants and computer/robotic-assisted navigation, which provide extreme precision, maximize natural knee movement, and significantly increase the functional lifespan of the joint.
Détails de l'intervention
1 Anesthesia: The patient is given spinal/epidural anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia.

2 Incision: The surgeon makes an 8 to 10-inch incision over the front of the knee to expose the joint capsule.

3 Bone Resurfacing: Specialized precision guides are used to shave away the worn ends of the thigh bone (femur) and shin bone (tibia).

4 Implant Fixation: The metal femoral and tibial components are securely cemented to the prepared bone structures. A durable plastic insert is snapped into place to function as the new cartilage.

5 Closure: The joint is thoroughly irrigated, a temporary surgical drain may be placed, and tissues are sutured securely.
